Improved Small RNA Library Preparation Workflow for Next-Generation Sequencing
Sabrina Shore, Jordana Henderson, Anton McCaffrey, Gerald Zon, Richard Hogrefe

We describe an optimized small RNA NGS library prep workflow using chemically modified adapters which suppresses adapter dimers, allows for RNA inputs down to 1 ng and eliminates the need for a gel purification step, thus allowing full automation not previously possible.

A novel multi-organ microfluidic chip: on the way to the complexity of a living organism
Timur R Samatov, Svetlana A Tonevitskaya, Natalya Pulkova, Evgeny A Tonevitsky

A novel physiologically relevant multi-organ chip is developed capable of culturing up to six different organotypic models integrated into a single microfluidic circuit.

ENZYME COATED MAGNETIC NANOPARTICLES FOR USE IN CONTINUOUS FLOW MICROFLUIDIC DEVICES
Ferenc Ender, Diana Weiser, Andras Vitez, Laszlo Poppe

A novel Lab-on-a-Chip platform is presented incorporates micro-sized magnetic reaction cells capable of anchoring protein-coated MNPs addressable and selectively. Such platform allows the design of highly flexible and "programmable" execution of multienzyme processes for biocatalytic or diagnostic purposes.

Hand-held Automated Instrument for Microchip Electrophoresis with Amperometric Detection
D.F. Pozo-Ayuso, A. Fernández-la-Villa, M. Castaño-Álvarez

Microchips electrophoresis (ME) in combination with electrochemical detection (ED) can bring a new generation of point-of-care (POC) analysis systems in which would be integrated the main steps of an analytical process.

DC microelectrode array for cell investigation
Marisa Rio1 , Sharanya Bola2, Salvatore Girardo3, Richard H. Funk2, Gerald Gerlach1

In order to mimic the endogenous dc electric field that cells experience in vivo, a microelectrode array was designed. Preliminary tests showed biocompatibility and promise to render further understanding of the cellular interaction with DC electric fields.

A multi-resonances valveless micropump with high fluid transportation efficiency
Ming-Che Hsieh, Min-Fan Huang, and An-Bang Wang

A multi-resonances valveless micropump equipping with inlet/outlet elastic chambers of intendedly-designed stiffness was successfully realized to solve the low efficiency problem. Besides, a theoretical model based on Hydraulic-electrical-Analogy was also proposed to precisely predict its characteristics of dynamic behavior.

Dry-mass sensing for microfluidics
T. Müller, D. A. White, and T. P. J. Knowles

The dry mass of analyte from microchannels is measured by means of spray-drying on an electromechanical sensor with nanogram sensitivity.

A Microfluidic Device for Detection of Water Contamination from Hydraulic Fracturing
Leslie J. Loh, Gayan C. Bandara, Christopher A. Heist and Vincent T. Remcho

A paper-based microfluidic device was designed and optimized for the colorimetric detection of bromide in water. This work was developed in response to the waste management challenges and pollution risks of hydraulic fracturing wastewater. This device is suitable for distribution as a field test as it is portable, easy to use, inexpensive and can be packaged to extend shelf life.
