New office will meet India’s increasing need for high efficacy processes for its fast growing food and feed industries.

Novasep announces it is expanding its presence in India with the opening of Novasep Process Engineering Services PCT LTD, a part of its Industrial Business Unit. The new office will enable Novasep to serve more closely industries in India producing functional and commodity food and feed ingredients, milk derivatives and bio-based chemicals.

Michel Cotillon, a Novasep veteran, formerly R&D head of the industrial biotech business and then its area sales manager for France and Benelux, has been promoted to head the subsidiary as general manager.

Novasep’s expansion to Bangalore, India, comes at a time when India’s food and feed ingredients industries are experiencing fast growth. It follows Novasep’s successful expansion of its team in China in 2012.

“Novasep’s set up in India is another key milestone in our strategy to expand our geographical presence,” said Michel Spagnol, CEO at Novasep. “After our success in China, Novasep India is well placed to support our growth in future years.”

Novasep’s Indian subsidiary will provide expert local support to sugar mill operators in India to integrate Novasep’s optimized processes. These processes enhance the quality of fine liquors, increase sugar production yields or competitively produce liquid sugar with ApplexionTM ion exchange, a technology pioneered by Novasep and today largely used in the food industry.

For the Indian dairy industry, Novasep will provide local expertise in developing cost-effective processes that guarantee the performance of:

• Whey demineralization using electro-dialysis reaching D50-70 whey grade or combined with Applexion ion exchange to reach D90 whey grade.
• Lactose purification with Applexion ion exchange and nano-filtration
• Production of crystalline lactose using Applexion SSMB chromatography

Novasep will continue to sell biopharma chromatography equipment and associated processes in India.

“India is one of the most dynamic areas where Novasep’s expertise can meet manufacturer expectations for state-of-the-art processes,” said Nadege Laborde, president of the Industrial Biotech Business Unit. “Novasep has a complete portfolio of technologies and extensive know-how in industrial purification technologies for the food and feed ingredient industries. Michel Cotillon’s strong technical expertise and leadership as general manager of Novasep Process Engineering Services will ensure our successful development in India.”

Novasep India will continue to collaborate with the Nilsan Nishotech Systems Pvt. Ltd. team, which has represented Novasep in India for more than 20 years. Nilsan Nishotech will remain the exclusive agent for Novasep for industrial biotech and biopharma purification processes and systems in India.
