Irvine Scientific has announced that a collaboration program with a leading stem-cell research facility in the USA, has resulted in a new, customized product for the research market, PRIME-XV® Mouse Hematopoietic Cell Basal Medium. This serum-free basal medium supports self-renewal of mouse hematopoietic progenitors (HPCs) while maintaining their differentiation potency.

Hematopoietic progenitors or precursor cells give rise to all blood and immune system cells and are therefore a key target cell type in the search to better understand cell-based mechanisms in cancer and immune disorders, and in the development of new therapies.

Mouse HPCs are often used in early research and disease modelling. One of the main challenges in culturing mouse HPCs is the need to prevent cell differentiation and maintain HPC activity, while obtaining sufficient numbers of cells for further research. Consistency of cell culture conditions is an important factor in over-coming this challenge. In competitive repopulation assays and analytical studies conducted by the collaborator, PRIME-XV® Mouse Hematopoietic Cell Basal Medium, when supplemented with needed cytokines, was shown to produce both the desired growth and HPC activity required to fulfill the needs of researchers via mouse model.

Dr. Jessie Ni, Chief Scientific Officer at Irvine Scientific, said: “Working in collaboration with scientists in a research group renowned for their work on the mechanisms regulating progenitor cell function in hematopoietic systems has enabled Irvine Scientific to develop a basal medium tailored to the specific requirements of researchers culturing cells of mouse hematopoietic lineages. PRIME-XV Mouse Hematopoietic Cell Basal Medium fulfills a need in the research market for an effective, affordable, consistent, and readily available medium for mouse HPC culture."

PRIME-XV Mouse Hematopoietic Cell Basal Medium is now available for purchase.
