Amino-Coated Metallofullerene Nanoparticles for Glioblastoma Mutiforme Tumor Detection
Department of Chemistry, Virginia Tech,Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute

We report the preparation of a new functionalized trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene, with a cage surface consisting of positively charged amino groups, which is expected to bind more efficiently to negatively charged cell phospholipid bi-layer cellular surfaces and will more readily undergo endocytosis. We now report that this Gd-nanoplatform when subsequently conjugated with an IL-13 peptide, (IL-13-Gd3N@C80(OH)x(NH2)y) exhibits enhanced targeting of U-251 GBM cell lines.
Significant Increase of Sensitivity on Rapid Influenza Antigen Assays Using Silver Amplification Immunochromatography.
1) Department of Laboratory Medicine and Central Clinical Laboratory, Showa University Northern Yokohama Hospital, Yokohama 224-8503, Japan 2) Department of Pediatrics, Showa University Northern Yokoh

We have developed a new rapid bed-side assay system for in vitro diagnosis of infectious diseases, using “silver amplification method”, an application of photography-developing technology. The automatic analyzer brings results in fifteen minutes, enhancing sensitivity up to 1000 times compared to the conventional immunochromatography. We applied the technology for diagnosis of hospitalized children. The analyzer was useful for rapid and precise diagnosis of influenza A and B.

Biotechnology Research Institute, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Republic of Korea

The dSPE of QuEChERS was replaced with an SPE cartridge, which provided a very clean chromatogram, although a small recovery percentage was obtained. The method fulfilled all validation criteria and was useful for monitoring etoxazole residues in red pepper. It can also be used and optimized for other fruit and vegetable matrices.
Simultaneous multi-determination and transfer of eight pesticide residues from green tea leaves to infusion using gas chromatography
Biotechnology Research Institute, College of Agriculture and Life Science, Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Republic of Korea

Acetonitrile was used as the extraction solvent with sodium chloride to enhance the partitioning of analytes into the organic phase. Recovery indicated good method accuracy and repeatability, and was within the acceptable range for residue determinations. The mere presence of pesticide residues in tea does not necessarily mean that the tea has become toxic and would pose a health hazard. We revealed that only a negligible or small percentage of pesticides in tea is transferred to the infusion.
Matrix enhancement effect: A blessing or curse for gas chromatography?
Biotechnology Research Institute, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University, 300 Yongbong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju 500-757, Republic of Korea

A sharp, narrow, and sensitive peak is a pre-condition for a sensitive GC analysis. Therefore, a protectant is needed to protect the analyte from any type of distortion for integration and to prevent overestimation. Existing solutions do not overcome these problems completely due to limitations. As the matrix enhancement problem originated from matrix components, its solution should come from similar components.

MS Data Processing With Full Flexibility Of Universal Processing Software
Thermo Fisher Scientific

Liquid Chromatography (LC) in combination with triple quadrupole Mass Spectrometry (MS) is more and more a common analysis technique in routine laboratories. Especially when using MS/MS selected reaction monitoring (SRM) for a large number of components data handling can be a bottle neck. This poster will show MS data processing of pesticides in water samples using an already established chromatography data system which is now also capable of processing large quantities of MS data.
Application Notes
Simple sample preparation for the determination of vitamin D in serum by LC-MSMS
Tecan Group Ltd.

A growing number of laboratories have moved from the use of immunoassay methods to liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MSMS) for the determination of vitamin D. The advantage of the latter method is unparalleled specificity combined with high sensitivity, offering the potential for the determination of multiple analytes, such as 25OH-vitamin D3 and 25OH-vitamin D2.
Automated Sample Preparation of 25-OH-Vitamin D3/D2 from Serum with the AC Extraction Plate and the Tecan Freedom EVO® for the quantification by LC-MS/MS
Tecan Group Ltd.

There is an increasing demand for the determination of Vitamin D status which is based on the quantification of the two metabolites 25-OH-Vitamin D3/D2. Numerous laboratories have moved from the use of immunoassay methods to liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) because of its specificity combined with high sensitivity. Moreover LC-MS/MS offers the potential for multianalyte determination which is required for Vitamin D status determination.
