Agilent Technologies Inc. has announced the release of “Sample Preparation Fundamentals for Chromatography,” written by sample preparation expert Ronald E. Majors, Ph.D. The publication is a comprehensive reference guide for chromatography sample preparation methodologies.

“The purpose of this book is to outline some of the most popular sample preparation technologies in use today,” said Majors. “From ‘dilute and shoot’ to multistage sample handling, the guide showcases the proper use of these technologies to obtain optimum results.”

The guide features the basics of sample preparation as well as instructions on how laboratories can expand their sample preparation capabilities.

“We are pleased to provide this valuable resource to analytical scientists who are either new to sample preparation or who need more advanced training,” said Trisa Robarge, Agilent’s manager of sample preparation products. “The book illustrates and explains the whole spectrum of sampling fundamentals, processes and instruments, and is a powerful resource for all analytical scientists.”

The guide covers a range of topics, from an overview of sample types to derivatization techniques for HPLC and GC analysis. This reference helps readers identify and handle various types of samples, materials and analytes, and select proper sampling and extraction methodologies.

The 355-page book contains more than 150 images, illustrations and chromatograms. It includes a 300-word glossary of sample preparation terms that can help both novice and expert alike.

Majors, an Agilent senior scientist and author, is one of the industry’s premier chromatography experts. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of LCGC magazine and editor of the magazine’s “Column Watch” and “Sample Prep Perspectives” series.
