Agilent Technologies, Inc. has introduced new columns in both the small-molecule ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and biopharma (large molecule) categories.

The AdvanceBio Glycan Mapping Column is the latest addition to the AdvanceBio family of columns; it is specifically designed to deliver fast, high resolution glycan separations. Poroshell HPH-C18 and Poroshell HPH-C8 chemistries are additions to the Poroshell 120 family; they are ideal for high pH applications. These application-specific LC columns help increase laboratory throughput and provide rapid, reproducible, high-resolution results for critical applications.

“Glycan mapping is one of the more complex workflows in the development of biotherapeutics, biosimilars and biobetters,” said Anne Jones, general manager of Agilent’s Chemistries Division. “Accuracy and speed are of utmost importance, so in the race to bring new biotherapeutics to market, finding a faster way to get accurate results is paramount.”

“Small-molecule pharmaceutical labs using high pH method development also face unique challenges and must optimize pH stability in order to develop the most effective separation method possible,” she added.

AdvanceBio Glycan Mapping Columns
AdvanceBio Glycan Mapping columns enable laboratories to complete high-resolution glycan mapping separations in less than 10 minutes. They are available in two UHPLC configurations: 2.7 µm superficially porous particles for high resolution and low backpressure (stable to 600 bar), and 1.8 µm for highest resolution, stable to 1200 bar.

Poroshell HPH-C18 and Poroshell HPH-C8 Columns
Agilent’s Poroshell 120 columns are very popular with laboratories working with small molecules. New Poroshell HPH-C18 and HPH-C8 chemistries are made by chemically modifying Poroshell 120 particles using a proprietary process to increase pH stability. These columns are now the only superficially porous columns on the market that have organically modified silica support for high pH analyses.

Superficially porous particle technology, first introduced by Agilent, provides analytical resolution similar to sub-2 µm particles, with significantly less backpressure, enabling rapid LC on any HPLC or UHPLC instrument. The new HPH chemistries enable chromatographers to develop screening methods using chemistries for low, moderate and now high pH conditions without impacting column lifetime.

“Agilent has developed both products from the ground up, to ensure end-to-end manufacturing precision and high QC rigor to deliver the reproducible performance that is a hallmark of these market-leading LC columns,” said Jones.
