Welcome from the Scientific Directors

Dr Dominic Harrington

I am delighted to welcome you to the GSTS Innovation Academy and to our inaugural scientific symposium. Clinical science is part of the fabric of our organisation and today twelve of our senior scientists will share with you recent service innovations around the broad themes of Child Health, Keeping People Healthy, Infectious Diseases and Next Generation Diagnostics. We will hear how innovations, developed and implemented within our laboratories, support our clinical colleagues in the delivery of patient care. Clinical science has been a powerful driver of developments in the provision of healthcare for decades and many of our staff have contributed to current practice. The Innovation Academy aims to create an environment supportive of innovation, quality and the development of our future scientific leaders. In short, we know that good science equals good medicine.

Prof Roy Sherwood

I am pleased to announce the first GSTS Innovation Academy symposium, a day that will offer you great networking opportunities and scientific collaboration, as well as a chance to listen to a range of experts within the clinical science field. We are lucky to have presenters from across GSTS laboratories, discussing current trends and topical developments in areas such as expanded newborn screening, vitamin B12 deficiency, HIV drug resistance and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. The aim of these talks is to not only to share knowledge within the group, but to stimulate discussion around the current topics of the day. We hope you find the day interesting and useful, and invite you to look out for the next Innovation Academy event.

The address for the venue is as follows:

Guy’s Hospital,
St Thomas Street,
London
SE1 9RT
