Thermo Fisher Scientific Goes Global with Food Safety Seminar Series

The global seminar program will take place across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia and Japan to explore global perspectives on food safety.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced a series of seminars that demonstrate the company’s expertise in food safety. The global seminar program will take place across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia and Japan from September 2009 through December 2009.

The seminars will offer participants the opportunity to enhance their understanding of food safety and learn about the latest advances from leaders in the field, as well as Thermo Fisher’s food safety scientists.

Program content includes the latest global regulatory information, technology discussions and practical suggestions that will be invaluable to food safety professionals. The sessions will be led by one of several esteemed speakers including Dr. John Gilbert, former science director of Central Science Laboratory in the UK, and Dr. Hamide Senyuva, former senior research scientist of TUBITAK_ATAL in Turkey.

Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Senyuva are now directors of FoodLife International, an organization dedicated to improving the safety of food through research, consulting and training. Dr. James Seiber, chair of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California Davis in California, and Stewart Reynolds, principal scientist in the Chemical Residue Program at FERA in the UK, complete the team of speakers.

The seminars will explore topics including global perspectives on food safety, improving method performance to comply with new methods and regulatory requirements and the simplification of multi-residue methods for pesticides and veterinary drug residues.

Presenters will also discuss new technologies to improve laboratory productivity, including high-resolution mass spectrometry for non-targeted screening in food safety and how these techniques can overcome emerging risks and new threats to our food supply.
