Molecular Devices LLC has announced that it has been awarded the New Product Innovation Award for the ImageXpress® Micro Confocal High Content Imaging system, launched at the recent Miptec conference in Basel, Switzerland. The award is in recognition for the AgileOptix™ technology innovation the system offers to biologists.

Designed to run today’s more complex, physiologically relevant cellular models including 3D spheroids, tissues, live-cell assays and even organisms, the system combines the clarity of confocal imaging with the throughput and well-known robustness of the ImageXpress Micro platform.

The ImageXpress Micro Confocal system features the revolutionary AgileOptix™ technology that enables simple, user-defined configurations to ensure maximum assay performance for both confocal and widefield imaging. Multiple confocal geometries are available including pinhole and slit confocal imaging — the only commercially available high-content imaging system with this option.

Unlike other spinning disc confocal systems, AgileOptix technology makes it possible for the system to deliver the sensitivity and throughput needed for demanding applications by combining an advanced solid-state light engine, proprietary spinning disc technology, optics and a scientific CMOS sensor. The system acquires a >3 log dynamic range and captures publication-quality images while its large optical field of view maximizes collection of statistically-relevant data.

“We’re very excited that the ImageXpress Micro Confocal system was selected for this year’s New Product Innovation Award,” said Grischa Chandy, Ph.D., Senior Product Manager. “It was gratifying to hear that the jury recognized our enabling technology, which captures high-quality confocal images at the speed one would expect from wide field screening. The jury also specifically noted our targeted acquisition feature, which lets biologists identify objects of interest at low magnification and then automatically image them at high magnification. These features greatly accelerate the study of complex cell biology in more biological relevant models.”

The Miptec International Life Science Exhibition is part of the Basel Life Science Week, held annually in Basel, Switzerland. With over 3,000 delegates from pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hundreds of exhibitors, poster presentations and speakers, MipTec is the largest annual drug discovery conference in Europe.
