Laboratory relocation specialist Andrew Porter Limited has completed the move of PolyTherics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Abzena, to the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge.

The six-day project involved the integrated relocation from London of laboratory instrumentation and temperature controlled materials, plus the movement of hazardous goods, carried out to ADR requirements.

Andrew Porter Limited packed all the consumables and bench-top equipment for the move, a process which took four days.  Items included high value instrumentation, which was packed and handled in accordance with OEM standards, and temperature sensitive materials in the -80 degree frozen range and 2-8 degrees refrigerated range.

Dr Sally Waterman, senior vice president corporate development of Abzena, had managerial responsibility for the move.

“From the outset, we were impressed at the level of technical and regulatory knowledge and understanding from the team at Andrew Porter Limited,” she commented.

“They planned the relocation effectively in order to minimise downtime and all elements were carried out successfully and on schedule.  It was helpful for us to have a single point of contact with a firm which was able to manage all elements of our lab moving needs.”

Andrew Porter Limited’s European sales director, John Best, added: “It was a pleasure to work with Abzena and help the firm establish its new headquarters.  This project involved several technical elements, the integrated management of which is a specialism of ours.  We are delighted to be continuing the development of our reputation as leading experts in the field of life science relocations.”

The new headquarters in Cambridge will be home to over 75 scientists from PolyTherics and Antitope, Abzena’s other wholly owned subsidiary, creating one of the largest R&D teams in the UK, focused on providing high-value services and complementary technologies to identify and create better therapeutic proteins and antibodies.

Andrew Porter Limited is the only laboratory relocations firm in Europe to provide integrated movement of instrumentation, data, samples, cold chain and dangerous goods to GxP standards.
