From Batch to Continuous Flow Processing: Development of Safe and Improved Methods for Aerobic Oxidation

About the Speaker
Dr. Alain Favre-Réguillon graduated in 1996 from University of Lyon with a PhD in organic chemistry on extraction of radioactive caesium using functionalized crown-ethers and calixarenes. Subsequently, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Paris) as associate professor. He develops new ligand platforms for MRI contrast agents. In 2001 he moved back to University of Lyon at the Institute for Molecular and Supramolecular Chemistry and Biochemistry (ICBMS) in the team of Pr. Marc Lemaire. Research activities at ICBMS focus on sustainable chemistry, atom economical strategies and catalytic processes. In 2011 he joined the Laboratoire de Génie des Réacteurs Catalytique (LGPC) headed by Dr. Claude de Bellefon. His research interests now lie in use of advanced flow reactors for mass or heat transfer demanding reactions and lignocellulosic biomass valorisation.Abstract
This talk will highlight the advantages of continuous flow gas-liquid processes for aerobic oxidation of aldehydes and alcohols. The simple experimental setup in combination with the benefits given by continuous flow technology, including safety, renders the procedure synthetically very interesting and we will show that high throughput screening of experimental conditions resulted in the development of improved protocols.
