The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC), a BBSRC strategically-funded institute, has expanded their sequencing capabilities by adding two Illumina HiSeq 2500 machines to its cutting-edge platform suite.
The new laboratory equipment will provide the National Capability Institute with the most up-to-date level of Next Generation Sequencing for genome analysis projects.
The instruments will allow TGAC additional capacity and throughput for the genomic pipeline. In a single sequence run, the kit will enable TGAC scientists to generate up to 1Tb of data per sequence run in six days.
Sarah Cossey, Director of Operations at TGAC, said: "The need to expand the number of Illumina platforms at TGAC is a great reflection of the success that TGAC has achieved to date. The new chemistry and technological advances of the latest reagent kit will enable us to produce more data, at a lower cost, for the UK science community to access via the national capability."
