Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Obtained by Electrochemical Synthesis in Poly(Amide-Hydroxyurethane) Media
Melnig Viorel, Stefan Marius, Hritcu Lucian, Mihasan Marius, Gostin Irina, Pricop Daniela

Due to the outbreak of the infectious diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged up as novel antimicrobial agents.

Molecular dynamics of POPC and POPE lipid membrane bilayers enforced by an intercalated single-wall carbon nanotube
Sergey Shityakov, Thomas Dandekar

In this study, we used high temperature molecular dynamics simulation (400 K), because it is known that critical fluctuations of lipid membranes can even occur at 313 K and especially above 343 K the interlamellar water layer thickness starts to increase non-linearly due to "hydration force". We implemented this method to emphasize POPC and POPE (palmitoyl-oleoyl-phosphatidylethanolamine) membrane bilayer stability enhanced with single-wall carbon nanotube.

Microfluidic chips with nanostructures for investigation of biological objects by methods of high resolution microscopy
I.V. KUKHTEVICH 1; A.A. EVSTRAPOV 1,2,3; A.S. BUKATIN 2,3; I.S. MUKHIN 1,2

We have designed and fabricated a microfluidic chips (MFC) with integrated net of nanochannels (traps) for fixation of biological samples in their native environment during study by SPM and CLSM. These traps were created by method of focused ion beam lithography. The width of fabricated nanochannels is in the range from 50 to 300 nm. Fabricated MFC were investigated on test samples in liquid buffer solution.

Controlled Synthesis and Manipulation of Self-Assembled Peptide Nano Spheres by Microfluidic Dielectrophoresis (DEP)
Nikolaj O. Christiansen, Mohammad Ajine, Jaime Castillo, Maria Dimaki & Winnie E. Svendsen

The self-assembled peptides as building blocks are excellent candidates for applications in biomedical nanotechnology because of their chemical diversity, flexibility, biocompatibility and stability. This work shows a stable synthesis in liquid and that is's posible to manipulate them using positive DEP.

A Practical Microfluidic Device for Synthesis of Purified Monodisperse Micro-Alginate Beads (MABs) as Microcarriers of Gold Nanoparticles.
Paul-Emile POLENI, Serge OSTROVIDOV, Yasuyuki SAKAI and Teruo FUJII

We developed a microfluidic device for encapsulating gold nanoparticles in Micro-Alginate Beads (MABs). The size and the gap of the monodisperse alginate droplets were successfully controlled by adjusting the relative "oil/sample" flow rate ratio. Droplets reacted with calcium ion at the interface between oil phase and aqueous phase so that MABs precipitated spontaneously and undergone complete gelation. Purified MABs were successfully observed by fluorescence microscopy.

Hyaluronan-Chitosan Polyelectrolytic Complex as a Platform for Delivery of Cytotoxic Agents
Philen S, Coleman R, Gilbert A, McFadden K, Sharma, S, Stensgard E, Brekke, JH and Rutkowski GE

Described here is a biomimetic hydrogel adapted to serve as a high concentration, regional delivery system for cytotoxic agents. Paclitaxel was conjugated with low molecular weight hyaluronan to render it water soluble, then embedded in the HCP-h hydrogel for delivey to a culture of C8161 malignant melanoma cells. Live/dead staining of cells was used to monitor effectiveness of paclitaxel release from its HCP-h depot.

Clinical Evaluation of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) induced with directed differentiation to gonadotrope cells to cure vasculogenic impotency and to improve coital frequency in males. An open st
Timothy S. Andersson, David K. Chin, Wendy Hiu Wai Wong

This work demonstrates the clinical efficacy, tolerability and safety of patient-syngenic hESC induced with directed differentiation to gonadotrope cells. Hypothalamus transmits gonadotropin releasing factor to pituitary that sets off LH and FSH to Sertoli cell and Seminiferous tubule resulting Leydig cell to produces testosterone. This potential offers a rationale to evaluate hESCs to cure patients with vasculogenic impotency and to improve coital frequency in males.

Clinical Evaluation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSc) to cure patients with Psoriasis Vulgaris. An Open Study.
Timothy S. Andersson, David K. Chin, Wendy H. Wong

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of iPSc directed to interfere T-cell activation to cure patients with psoriasis. Twenty subjects were enrolled. Each patient was administered iv with syngenic iPS. Those showing lower PASI score were considered cured. The study states that induced iPSCs are safe and impart significant clinical efficacy to cure patients with psoriasis.
