Message from chair:

We in the academe know for a fact the tremendous impact of research to society and the world at large. It is something that is not immediately felt at the start but eventually we get to reap the benefits of research in many aspects of our lives. It is through research that grand ideas are formulated, novel ways are discovered, strategic plans are made, sound recommendations are forwarded, and dynamic changes happen. It is only when we attempt to examine things more closely that we are able to see things in a new light and these provide us with new knowledge that we impart to our students, the industry, and the society. In other words, research has created innumerable possibilities that contribute to the growth of a field of study, and Pharmacy is one discipline that has remained relevant through the years due to its aggressive research projects.

This year we are again holding the Philippine Pharmaceutical Research Congress (PPRC). This is the third time that we are holding this noteworthy academic activity, a biennial academic tradition that speaks of our quest for continued excellence and our desire to foster healthy intellectual exchanges with one another. It will continue to highlight the contributions of pharmacists in all areas of the profession as both direct and indirect influences on health care. What makes this year’s congress more special is the fact that it is held at the University of Santo Tomas, the venerable institution that will be celebrating its quadricentennial in 2011 and we are just a few months away from that historical milestone.  All the activities and events in the university are geared towards this once- in- a- lifetime event.

This year’s theme is Trends, Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Connecting TIEs in Pharmacy, a very timely topic that will discourse on the thread that connects the three significant areas of concern with Pharmacy. We are very fortunate that internationally and locally renowned speakers will share with us their knowledge, expertise, and experience. And more important, we shall have the chance to interact with them during the course of the congress.

On behalf of the Faculty of Pharmacy, I welcome all the pharmaceutical scientists to this much needed meeting of the minds. Let this be a moment for all of us to share knowledge, concretize our visions and foster lasting friendships.
