Agilent Technologies Inc. has announced that major genomics research center BGI has achieved Certified Service Provider (CSP) status for the Agilent SureSelect XT Target Enrichment System for next-generation sequencing. The Agilent CSP Program is a partnership program for service providers wishing to provide a higher level of data quality to their customers.

Shenzhen-based BGI, the largest genomic organization in the world, becomes the first SureSelect XT CSP in China. The institution is certified for all SureSelect XT target enrichment protocols including human all-exon, SureSelect indexing, DNA capture, RNA capture, kinome RNA and custom kits.

"We are very pleased to be an Agilent CSP,” said Li Jingxiang, director, Genome Sequencing Operations, BGI. “The Agilent SureSelect XT Target Enrichment System is an excellent and internationally renowned product, with which we can deliver the best exome target sequencing service to our customers.”

“We’re extremely pleased that this premier sequencing center is making the benefits of SureSelect XT Target Enrichment available across the very wide range of genomics experiments that it performs,” said Fred P. Ernani, Ph.D, Agilent Genomics marketing director, SureSelect platform.

Since the platform’s inception in 2009, Agilent now offers 35 SureSelect Target Enrichment kits. It has been cited in more than 45 peer-reviewed publications, including research and discovery work on a wide range of heritable disorders.

Target enrichment using SureSelect XT streamlines workflows by letting researchers sequence genomic regions of interest rather than entire genomes. Combined with the increasing capacity of the leading next-generation sequencers, the multiplexing support capabilities of the SureSelect XT platform make it possible for scientists to interrogate the genomes of more samples per study than previously possible.

Until now, a limiting step in such studies has been library preparation and target enrichment. To enable high-throughput sample processing efficiency, Agilent offers an integrated workstation that automates SureSelect XT library preparation and target enrichment workflows.

SureSelect XT also allows the highest degree of customization. Users of Agilent’s eArray xD desktop design tool are able to improve the efficiency of their research by easily designing custom products to target any genome of interest, in a single tube.

Agilent also offers the eArray online design tool, enabling users to customize predefined SureSelect XT kits such as the SureSelect XT Mouse All Exon series of products.

The SureSelect XT Target Enrichment System was cited by Science Magazine in its Dec. 17 issue in connection with two of the Top 10 Breakthroughs of 2010: “Reading the Neandertal Genome” and “Homing In on Errant Genes.”
