FACSS Announces the Addition of a New Member Organization

The Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies announces that the Council for Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (CNIRS) has been admitted to the federation as a full member organization.

The Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) is an organization designed to further the interests of analytical chemistry and spectroscopy on behalf of its member organizations. In 1973,

FACSS was founded as a Federation of member organizations for the exchange of ideas at the forefront of analytical sciences. Over the last forty years FACSS has maintained five critical objectives to realize the Federation’s goals: (a) Education and Training, (b) Advance Knowledge, (c) Advance Technology, (d ) Provide Opportunity for Peer Networking, and (e) Promote and Enable Interests of Member Organizations.With the addition of the Council for Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (CNIRS) to the federation’s existing member organizations, FACSS is now twelve members strong. The other FACSS member organizations include the AES Electrophoresis Society, Division of Analytical Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), ANACHEM, the Coblentz Society, the Infrared and Raman Discussion Group (IRDG), the International Society for Automation (ISA) – Analysis Division, the North American Society for Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (NASLIBS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Analytical Division, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS), and the Spectroscopical Society of Japan (SpSJ). This expansion reflects a unique element of FACSS and its annual North American meeting, SciX, in that all areas and aspects of analytical chemistry are welcomed, bringing together leading scientists from many disciplines for scientific exchange.

FACSS provides an international forum for the exchange of ideas on the cutting edge of analytical science. As new techniques are developed, the complexity of analytical challenges continues to increase. SciX has embraced the interdisciplinary approaches needed to address these challenges. Researchers from academia, industry, and government come together each year in a cooperative effort to share insights and innovations. CNIRS brings added depth to the already broad scope of SciX programming.

“The Council For Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Board of Directors is very pleased that the FACSS Governing Board has chosen to admit CNIRS to the Federation as a full member organization”, says Gary E. Ritchie, President of the Council For Near-Infrared Spectroscopy. “The Council looks forward to a strong collaboration with the Federation in supporting SciX and extending its mission to advance and disseminate knowledge and information concerning the art and science of near-infrared spectroscopy and other allied sciences”, he added.

Networking lies at the heart of cross-discipline advances. SciX provides an environment that fosters interpersonal exchange, both formally and informally. Mixers, social events, and the exhibit floor provide important opportunities for discussion and collaboration. The addition of CNIRS brings the opportunity to meet new colleagues and collaborators at SciX. Come meet new faces and hear new science at SciX 2013 in Milwaukee, WI.

FACSS’s SciX conference in 2013 will be held in Milwaukee, WI from September 29 to October 4. The conference features more than 100 parallel session, internationally recognized awards, and plenary speakers.

Contributed papers form a significant portion of the program and interested authors should review details of abstract submission at www.scixconeference.org.
