Millipore Corporation has officially opened a new manufacturing facility in Danvers, Massachusetts. The over 30,000 square foot facility will produce a wide range of the company’s Mobius® single-use product line used for biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies, including components of the newly introduced Mobius FlexReady Solutions.

Millipore Chairman, President and CEO Martin Madaus was joined by a number of state, regional and local dignitaries at today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray.

“The opening of our Danvers manufacturing facility is positive not only for Millipore, but for the state of Massachusetts as well,” said Madaus. “We made a decision to move manufacturing of this product line from California and bring it to Massachusetts, which will mean additional jobs in the state, not to mention an exciting, innovative technology that is already having an impact on biopharmaceutical manufacturing.”

Millipore expects the new facility will employ 120 before the end of 2009. The company currently employs over 1,000 in Massachusetts and almost 6,000 around the world.

Millipore’s Mobius FlexReady Solutions are made up of single-use assemblies (Flexware™), separation devices, and process-ready hardware systems optimized for clarification, media and buffer preparation, tangential flow filtration (TFF) and virus filtration unit operations. The systems provide operational flexibility and efficiency plus improved product safety and process time.

“The completion of our new Mobius manufacturing facility demonstrates our commitment to developing single-use technologies for our customers and our desire to continue our leadership role in bringing these solutions to the industry,” said Jean-Paul Mangeolle, President, Bioprocess Division, Millipore Corporation.

Today’s event also marks the official launch of Millipore’s Go Mobius Road Show, which features a mobile tradeshow that will travel across the country, presenting Millipore’s single-use innovation and core device expertise.
