Analysis of DNA from stool samples may be required to identify viral or bacterial pathogens shed in faeces.  In addition, analysis of genomic DNA in human stools is a new approach for the detection of colon cancer, designed to identify specific DNA markers in cells that are shed from the lining of the colon through the stool.  In addition to purifying viral and bacterial DNA, the LIAISON® Ixt/Arrow™ Stool DNA kits have also been validated for the extraction of human DNA from human stool samples1 and are used for detection of gastrointestinal disease such as Clostridium difficile, Helicobacter pylori, rotavirus and Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC).

The consistent extraction of purified DNA from stool samples is inherently difficult due to the complex and variable composition of faeces and the presence of high levels of PCR inhibitors in this matrix.  DiaSorin LIAISON® Ixt/Arrow™ Stool DNA extraction kits overcome this problem.  Utilising magnetic bead technology these kits rapidly and consistently yield high quality genomic, bacterial and viral DNA, ready for use in PCR and other downstream applications. 

Designed for use with the automated DiaSorin LIAISON® Ixt/Arrow™ instruments, the kits perform with high reproducibility1.  They have been shown to yield high quality DNA with very low occurrence of PCR inhibitory substances1.  By automating the purification and DNA extraction process, these kits reduce technician hands-on time and increase sample throughput.  They are fast and easy to set up, with all reagents required present in the prefilled cartridges, yielding highly purified DNA from up to 12 faecal samples at a time in less than 50 minutes.

LIAISON® Ixt/Arrow™ Stool DNA extraction kits form part of a wide range of products available from DiaSorin for the investigation of stool samples, including LIAISON® immunodiagnostic assays for Clostridium difficile, Helicobacter pylori, rotavirus and Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC).

In addition to Stool DNA, LIAISON® Ixt/Arrow™ nucleic acid extraction kits are available for a number of applications, such as: the extraction of RNA or DNA from a variety of sample matrices; the extraction of DNA from blood samples; BUGS’n BEADS for the extraction of nucleic acid from a wide range of pathogens; and cell separation.
