NOVOstar Microplate Reader for Cell-based Assays

The NOVOstar is an affordable alternative to perform complex cell-based kinetic microplate assays such as calcium or ion channel. Previously, kinetic cell-based assays required the use of expensive HTS equipment, which lead to limited accessibility for scientists in the assay development stage. The NOVOstar offers the perfect equipment necessary for cell-based assays and research development, as well as the tools necessary to perform any other assay suitable for the microplate format.

Wide range of applications
Due to its integrated programmable micropipetting system and plate-to-plate transfer, the NOVOstar is well-suited to screen large numbers of compounds in kinetic cell-based assays, or it can create a dose response curve by measuring a wide range of compound concentrations. NOVOstar applications include:

• Ca2+ measurements (e.g. Ca2+flux with Fura-2, Indo-1, FLUO-3/4)
• Membrane potential studies
• Ion channel assays
• Intracellular pH
• Fluorescent reporter gene assays
• Traditional fluorescence assays involving up to eight excitation and emission pairs.

Exceptional technology
The NOVOstar achieves its functionality through the use of exceptional technology. It has a dual microplate carrier that allows users to designate a reagent microplate and a measurement microplate. A transfer micropipette easily allows for plate-to-plate transfers and two additional reagent injectors provide flexibility in assay design. Incubation up to 45°C or 60°C, shaking, user-defined kinetic sampling rates, and bottom reading are all features on the NOVOstar.

Software package
The NOVOstar Omega license-free software includes the NOVOstar Reader Control and the MARS Data Analysis software. This highly intuitive software provides limitless possibilities for test set-up and data analysis, while also offering a Quick Start shortcut for running routine tests and calculation templates for data analyses.
