The HB-Set Battery Mini-gel - Safe, low cost educational electrophoresis for schools and colleges

Scie-Plas™ Green Range™ horizontal gel electrophoresis units offer the ultimate standards in innovative design and manufacture, acquired during our 20-year existence. The Scie-Plas Green Range horizontal gel electrophoresis units currently comprise models with gel tray sizes ranging from 6 x 7.5 to 25 x 30cm. All models incorporate many design and safety features recommended by scientists, either from within our in-house product development team or laboratories worldwide. As a result, all our models are manufactured and finished to the highest specification, easy to use, and, with safety always paramount, CE-marked - conforming to European safety regulations.

The HB-SET Battery Mini-gel electrophoresis unit is designed specifically with safety in mind: in that no power supply is necessary. A battery pack, comprising 2 non-rechargeable PP3 batteries, provides a maximum 18 Volt output, making it ideally suited for educational use, particularly for the study of life sciences in schools and colleges. The ultra-compact size of the gel tank makes maximum use of the buffer volume, optimising the voltage gradient across the gel for efficient separation. The gel is cast directly between plastic casting gates within the UV-transparent gel tank, which are then removed before addition of the buffer and samples. Once the gel is loaded, the battery pack is connected to the gel tank, which is completely enclosed by the integrated safety lid. The HB-SET can also be adapted for low throughput molecular biology use in mainstream laboratories by application of the power supply compatible HB-LID.
