Artel announces the availability of two new reagent solutions that expand the volume range measurable with its line of DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) products. For use with the company’s MVS® Multichannel Verification System and Liquid Handler Performance Verification Service, these reagents enable users to accurately calibrate and verify their liquid handlers when dispensing DMSO-based solutions. DMSO is a solvent widely used for storage and transfer of small-molecule compounds during high-throughput screening campaigns in drug discovery. Because of its unique physical properties DMSO behaves differently than water when handled by air-displacement pipettors and acoustic droplet ejectors.

The MVS is an easy-to-use, universal system that verifies the volume-transfer performance of automated liquid handling systems and multichannel handheld pipettes. The MVS consists of equipment, software, sample solutions and highly characterized microtiter plates.

"Our initial DMSO offering, which was in the submicroliter range, was very well received by our customers,” explains Tanya Knaide, MVS product manager for Artel. “Increasing the testable volume range will allow researchers to verify and standardize their processes using reagent solutions that are comparable to what they are using in their everyday work."
