Columbia University Hospital Extends Clinical Partnership with RaySearch

The Radiation Therapy Department at Columbia University Hospital has added several RayStation® licenses and the required hardware to support a distributed network environment and adaptive radiation therapy on their Varian and Siemens linear accelerators.

The combined technologies of deformable registration, dose accumulation and adaptive therapy are now available to the planning team which will allow them to commence using advanced planning solutions that focus on treating cancer in a more dynamic way.

Hansen Chen, Director of Technology Development and Systems Integration will be working towards an early 2014 implementation of adaptive therapy, using RayStation® to examine the progress of prescribed treatments over time, correcting delivery as needed to assure that the treatment as originally planned is successfully completed. Hansen Chen comments: “We need efficient tools like RayStation® to help us with the clinical workflow when it comes to technologies like adaptive therapy. To actually apply this type of treatment monitoring and correction takes a great deal of effort and resource planning. If done correctly, we can improve patient care without losing efficiency or increasing costs.”
