CATIM in Association with Phasefocus Hosts a Two-Day Workshop

Workshop on label-free cell imaging to present on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th June.

Phase Focus Ltd (Phasefocus) has been invited to present a two day workshop on label-free cell imaging at CATIM - the Centre for Alternative Testing and In-vitro Monitoring on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th June.

The meeting will take place at the Frenchay Campus of the University of the West of England, Bristol.

The Centre for Alternative Testing and In-Vitro Monitoring (CATIM) is a consortium, led by the Institute of Bio-Sensing Technology UWE Bristol with other partners, the University of Bristol, Clarity Biosolutions the European Collection of Cell Cultures, the North Bristol NHS trust and the Humane Society International.

CATIM is cross faculty initiative which specializes in the creation of new technologies that detect and monitor changes in cell systems, critical for the development and evaluation of many new products, from bioactive chemicals to medical implants.

Centre Director, Dr Bret Dash, leads CATIM’s mission to provide testing facilities and expertise to local businesses in the South West of England in the application and development of novel and alternative technologies for testing and monitoring cells in-vitro.

This includes education and the introduction of new techniques to his audience both inside and outside the University. To this end, working with UK technology company, Phase Focus Limited, CATIM is to host a two-day workshop on label-free cell imaging.

The Phasefocus Virtual Lens® imaging system uses a technique known as Ptychography, allowing phase imaging of cells in high contrast, without using labels, and free of artefacts.

This method adds a further quantitative dimension to phase imaging, and is able to provide numerical information on cell cycle analysis, cell thickness and cell volume, which has traditionally been measured using fluorescence.
