Sphere Medical will be exhibiting its new Proxima patient dedicated arterial blood gas analyzer for the first time in Germany at H.I.T. 2015. The ‘Hamburger Intensivtage’, 29-30th May, will focus on the effective diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients in alignment with the very latest research.

One of the main themes of the H.I.T. conference is ‘Respiratory Medicine’. As an in-line device, the CE marked Proxima supports proactive patient care, particularly at critical times, since it enables rapid and frequent measurement of blood gases and electrolytes without leaving the patient’s bedside. These near real-time results are of particular importance in the management of acute respiratory patients (ARDS), especially those being treated by extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) who require extremely close monitoring.

The Proxima sensor is a miniaturized blood gas analyzer that is integrated directly into the patient’s arterial line, which also ensures blood conservation since all blood is returned to the patient. Operated using the dedicated bedside monitor with touch screen interface; simple, clear routines guide the user through operating the Proxima system. Patient results are then displayed clearly on this monitor and electronically transferred for permanent record within information management systems.

Direct connectivity to the hospital information system is crucial in the efficient management of patient data generated by Proxima, and enables Point-of-Care Coordinators and other laboratory staff to remotely monitor its use and performance.

Attendees at H.I.T. 2015 will have the opportunity to meet with Gerhard Riechers, Sphere Medical’s new Sales Manager for Germany. Notably, Gerhard is a trained nurse with over 20 years’ experience working within the critical care environment, including team leadership of a 24 bed surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Medical University of Hannover. This means that he is exceptionally well placed to demonstrate and discuss the significance of the new connectivity enhanced Proxima bedside blood gas analyzer.

“I am very excited to be working with this cutting edge in-line arterial blood gas monitoring system,” said Gerhard Riechers, Sales Manager Germany, Sphere Medical. “From my experience of working within the critical care environment, I can truly appreciate that using Proxima directly at a patient’s bedside can make a real difference in the care and clinical management of critically ill patients.”
