Photon Control Inc. has announced the launch of the Photon Control Custom Spectrometer Builder for the SPM-002 line of spectrometers.

The Photon Control Custom Spectrometer Builder is a specialized web tool, that will help our distributors and customers make an informed spectrometer purchasing decision in 7 simple steps. The Custom Spectrometer builder was inspired by the market feedback we received, that there was no easy tool to assist with visualizing the performance trade-offs inherent when building a custom spectrometer.

The Custom Spectrometer Builder was created from years of production and test data, sourced market-available component information and then developed into the first intuitive web interface in the market.

Customization of a spectrometer is not an easy task, because there is not a one-size fits all solution for spectroscopy applications. The Photon Control Custom Spectrometer Builder helps identify specific needs towards the customer’s application by visually providing feedback. Often the following questions are asked by customers; if a 10µm slit is chosen, how will that affect the throughput of the spectrometer? How much more sensitive is this detector at 185nm over that other one, and is it worth the cost?

Each choice has a cascading effect on the other, making it difficult to get a visual representation, and more importantly quantify, what should be optimized or not optimized. With the Photon Control Custom Spectrometer Builder, we guide spectroscopy customers through the selection process step-by-step. This helps to minimize delays, frustration, and any predicted difficulties for customers who have little to no experience in purchasing a spectrometer.

The seven simple steps include:
1. Select your spectral range and the peak wavelength you’re most interested in.
2. From the grating options provided; select the grating that has the highest efficiency for your application or select our pre-defined ranges, A through F.
3. There is an inherent trade-off between resolution and throughput. Choose a slit size to optimize resolution while balancing throughput with the graphs that provide the expected resolution and throughput to your slit choice.
4. Detector Selection; choose detector to trade-off spectral response against noise performance and resolution.
5. Choose fiber type to trade-off UV spectral response against VIS spectral response
6. Choose fiber diameter and cylindrical lens option to capture the most light for your measurement.
7. Review the selected spectrometer details and get a quote.
