Zeiss has announced that an entry-level version of Zeiss Axio Imager microscope specially optimised for routine microscopy in pathology, histology, cytology and anatomy is now available.

Retaining the optical and ergonomic benefits of the Axio Imager family, the Axio Imager.A1 incorporates an LED illumination system to significantly boost the price/performance ratio.

A LED light source beneath the condenser is designed to offer "Fixed-Koehler illumination" for all contrasting techniques while eliminating the complexity of a transmitted-light beam path.

The optical arrangement also ensures homogeneous illumination throughout a range of condenser lens magnifications between 2.5x and 100x.

Zeiss claims that, LED illumination is now a credible alternative to conventional halogen light sources.

As with all Axio Imager variants, the Axio Imager.A1 microscope can be retrofitted with major components and accessories at any time.

The LED illumination system may be replaced with traditional transmitted-light illumination should this be required, such as for epi-fluorescence studies.

Axio Imager.A1 is also supported by Zeiss AxioVision software for full computer control and documentation.
