Veeco Instruments Inc. has announced that its recently introduced BioScope™ II, a high-performance atomic force microscope (AFM) designed to facilitate advanced bioscience research, has been selected for purchase by the Institute Pasteur de Lille

Veeco will establish a life sciences lab in the Institute's facility, and will provide bio-applications scientists and other technology resources to the Institute.

Dr. Frank Lafont, Group Director, Cell Microbiology and Pathogenic Infectious Diseases, Institute Pasteur de Lille, stated, "The BioScope II's superior resolution and ease-of-use with optical microscopes made it the clear choice for our advanced cell biology research."

"Furthermore, Veeco's commitment to the bio-research community through applications support, dedicated life scientists, and access to development teams made them the right partner for the Institute Pasteur de Lille."

"It is the Institute Pasteur de Lille's intention to continue to forge links between academics and industry in the areas of cell biology research in order to further the treatment of infectious and other diseases, as evidenced by this collaboration with Veeco, the world leader in AFM."

Jeannine Sargent, Executive Vice President, Veeco Metrology and Instrumentation, commented, "We are pleased that our BioScope II has been selected by the Institute Pasteur de Lille, a premier cell biology research center in Europe."

"Veeco's goal is to remain at the forefront of worldwide cell biology research and to develop other innovative AFM solutions for biologic research and industrial applications."

Francis Steenbeke, Vice President, Veeco Europe, added, "The Institute Pasteur de Lille is important from both an educational and research standpoint throughout the European bio-research and industrial community."

"Establishing our bio-lab at the Lille site will make the BioScope II technology and Veeco's applications specialists readily accessible to other research centers throughout Europe."

The BioScope II AFM is designed to enable in-situ techniques for measuring biological samples in three dimensions, while integrated with an inverted optical or confocal microscope.

Veeco claims that, it is ideal for a wide array of cutting-edge bioscience applications, such as spatial identification of protein molecules and cellular structures, investigations of cell response to mechanical stimulation and nanomanipulation, and in situ pharmacological studies of live cells.
