Analysis of Low Levels of Bisphenol A (BPA) in Canned Broths

Analysis of Low Levels of Bisphenol A (BPA) in Canned Broths content piece image
This work presents a method that can be used for detection of very low levels of BPA in canned broth. Careful testing of blank samples, mobile phase and LC system components are recommended to circumvent BPA laboratory background. The method uses molecularly imprinted polymer SPE to extract and pre-concentrate BPA. The background BPA levels in this study were found to be below 0.2 ng/mL in the final sample. Analysis was performed using LC with fluorescence detection. Recovery of BPA from chicken broth spiked to 60 ng/mL was 72.5%. Recovery of BPA from beef broth spiked at 5 ng/mL was 75%. Another unfortified sample of beef broth was analyzed and found to contain BPA at levels greater than 60 ng/mL.
