Structural biology is important for relating molecular structure to biological function. The techniques and tools for solving the 3D structures of biological macromolecules is a computationally intensive process.

In this white paper, the techniques commonly used for structure determination are described. Additionally, some of the most important features in computer systems used for structural biology are discussed in detail, with a specific emphasis on technologies present in Mac OS X and available on Apple hardware. Combined into a single package, the technologies and tools discussed here greatly simplify the overall workflow of a structure determination.
