Where Do We Go From Here: A Reflection of COVID-19
In less than two years, much has been discovered about SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, and to date several vaccines have been created. Capitalizing on several decades of progress on new vaccine technologies, viral immunology, structural biology and protein engineering research, along with clinical trial operations, seven vaccines have undergone the process of rapid development, evaluation, manufacturing and deployment. Despite significant progress in the field, there are still many ”unknowns” about the virus, for example, the life cycle of SARS-CoV-2 and the various strategies employed by the virus to evade detection.
