Princeton Instruments (PI) has announced two recent appointments to its Sales & Marketing team.

Mr. Ravi Guntupalli has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

A key member of Princeton Instruments’ Marketing team for the past 12 years, Mr. Guntupalli has held the positions of Applications Scientist as well as Product Manager for the company’s Scientific Imaging group.

He has been a driving force in the introduction of many cutting-edge scientific instruments at PI, including the PIXIS CCD and ProEM EMCCD camera lines.

Mr. Guntupalli holds a B.S. in electronics from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (India) as well as an M.S. in biomedical engineering (medical imaging) from the University of Akron (Ohio).

“Ravi brings strong product knowledge and great enthusiasm to the position,” notes Don Templeman, President of Princeton Instruments.

Additionally, PI has increased its depth in the spectroscopy arena by hiring Dr. Brian Smith as the new Applications Specialist for the company’s Spectroscopy group. Dr. Smith brings more than 30 years’ experience as an industrial spectroscopist to the position.

He has written three popular books on spectroscopy, and worked for many years at Spectros Associates as a spectroscopic trainer and consultant.

Prior to that, he worked as an applications chemist at the Digilab division of Bio-Rad. Earlier in his career, Dr. Smith held R&D positions at AT&T Bell Labs, Xerox, and IBM.

Dr. Smith graduated with highest honors from Rochester Institute of Technology (New York) with a B.S. in chemistry, and earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Dartmouth College (New Hampshire). He will be based at the PI facility in Acton, Massachusetts.
