Mettler Toledo has introduced two new products to the Thermal Analysis Excellence portfolio, the DSC 3 and TGA 2, for routine analysis. The new DSC 3 uses a robust and versatile DSC sensor with 56 thermocouples to guarantee outstanding resolution and sensitivity, while the TGA 2 provides trustworthy thermogravimetric results from a Mettler Toledo balance.

Unmatched DSC Performance Tailored to Users Needs
The DSC 3 features the latest FRS 5+ sensor utilizing 56 thermocouples that provides high sensitivity and unprecedented temperature resolution. Thanks to its ceramic surface, the sensor is robust and chemically resistant, making it ideal for daily use. This 6th generation bottom-bonded, surface stabilized sensor represents more than two decades of innovative technology and provides superior results in industry standard qualification tests. In addition, the sensor has an unbeatable low signal time constant of 1.8 seconds that determines how well close-lying or overlapping thermal effects are separated from each other.

A robust, endurance-tested sample robot is key to fast and efficient routine measurements around the clock. The new DSC 3 sample robot can process up to 34 samples-even if every sample requires a different method and a specific crucible. The sample robot can even pierce the lid of hermetically-sealed aluminum crucibles immediately before the measurement. This unique feature prevents the sample from gaining or losing moisture between its weigh-in and measurement.

For improved usability of the DSC system, the user can now start the measurement with just One Click™. This patented function allows the user to perform all required steps via a touch-screen terminal without the use of a PC. This is extremely advantageous in quality control environments where the measurement devices are operated by technicians who are not involved with method development and result evaluation.

The unique built-in FlexCal® technology of the DSC 3 automatically applies the correct calibration parameters to match the specified heating rate, purge gas and crucible type. This eliminates the need to calibrate between experiments, resulting in faster measurements. Thanks to the versatile modularity of the DSC 3, each instrument is configured according to the requirements of its intended use.

Should requirements change after its installation, the instrument can be upgraded as needed, protecting the initial investment. Available options include the combination of the DSC with a microscope for visual inspection of thermal effects, or the usage of a photo calorimetry accessory to study UV-induced curing reactions.

All this makes the DSC 3 the first choice for users that require high performance combined with versatile modularity and deliberate ease of use fundamental for routine applications.

Fast and Accurate TGA Results through Seamless Workflows
The TGA 2 features the latest XP micro- and XPU ultra-microbalances from the world-wide leader in laboratory weighing solutions. In the last two decades, Mettler Toledo has proudly provided the only thermogravimetric analyzer on the market that can measure up to 50 million resolution points continuously down to 0.1 µg for a 5 gram sample weight. This delivers a true dynamic range which corresponds to the maximum load of the balance and enables a wider variety of sample types to be measured in regards to mass and density.

The improved thermostating of the balance contributes to excellent weighing performance and precise temperature control even when positioned adjacent to a furnace operating at very high temperatures. It guarantees reproducible results independent of changing environmental conditions in the workplace. This provides users with a single step process and allows for a wider application range.

Thanks to the versatile modularity of the TGA 2, each instrument can be configured according to the requirements of its intended use. Should requirements change after its installation, the instrument can be upgraded as needed, protecting the initial investment.

Users are backed by the support of Mettler Toledo's comprehensive services summarized under the umbrella of Good Thermal Analysis Practice (GTAP™) which includes initial installation and qualification, documented user training, a multitude of free webinars, valuable handbooks for self-studies, a keyword searchable database of applications, technical videos, seminars, e-training, etc. This support allows users to generate superior results with Excellence Thermal Analysis systems.
