Laboratories that provide QA/QC, forensics, educational or analytical services can now use a new monolithic diamond accessory designed to perform fast, high-quality attenuated total reflectance (ATR) sample analysis at an affordable price.

The accessory, the Thermo Scientific Smart iTX, integrates with the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 FT-IR spectrometer and other Thermo Scientific FT-IR systems to provide laboratory professionals with a monolithic diamond ATR solution intended to enable rapid data collection.

The Smart iTX is the latest addition to the extensive line of existing Nicolet iS10 accessories, which includes the Smart iTR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) interface and NIR integrating sphere.

“Monolithic diamond ATR is a valuable analytical technique, but its high cost has historically put it out of reach for many laboratories,” said Mike Garry, FT-IR product manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The Smart iTX solves this problem by offering monolithic diamond ATR analysis capability at the cost of a diamond laminate accessory, making this important technology available to any lab that needs it.”

In addition to its cost and performance benefits, the Smart iTX offers:

• Improved optical design that maximizes the performance of the accessory;
• Maximum information and robust operation owing to the monolithic diamond crystal;
• Interchangeable crystals, including diamond, zinc selenide (ZnSe) and germanium (Ge), for broader sample analysis capabilities; and
• An epoxy-free design that mitigates the risk of degradation when analyzing solvents.
