Graphene is the much lauded and hyped wonder material set to enable the next generation of advanced technologies and the Stirling based outfit, Integrated Graphene are set to launch their first graphene-enhanced product. The launch of their flagship 3D Graphene Foam electrodes, coincides with the company’s rebranding to signal their transition to commercialize their revolutionary 3D Graphene process in their first product, Gii-Sens. The rebrand also benchmarks the transition from an R&D company to Advanced Materials Manufacturer.
Integrated Graphene (formerly known as RD Graphene) are taking their hyper-sensitive 3D Graphene Foam electrodes to the Human Diagnostics market to enable biosensors with the performance to bring laboratory tests to the point of need, enabling rapid testing. As a spin out from their R&D origins, they are able to leverage their experience of working with diagnostics manufacturers with a full suite of assay and device development services. Thanks to their novel manufacturing process, Integrated Graphene are ideally positioned to fulfil the graphene promise across markets with a product finally ready to meet the industry demands, meaning the possibilities are endless.
Today, they hope that this flagship graphene product, launched in conjunction with their new Integrated Graphene brand, will mark the first steps on an ambitious commercial journey that will see them establish themselves as the world’s leading producer of pure 3D Graphene Foam. The company’s co-founders Claus Marquordt and Marco Caffio believe they are primed to capitalize on huge desire for a market ready application of graphene to enable the next generation of technologies. Speaking about the launch of Gii-Sens, the former had the following comments –
“Up until now we have been operating in the research field of academia, tentatively foraging through to commercial partnerships whilst we refined our proposition. But as of today, we are launching a limited supply of our electrodes to the market, to ensure a more tailored experience as we offer exclusive access to our customer services team, ensuring customers get the best experience of using Gii-Sens. A full-scale commercial launch is scheduled for early 2021. Most graphene solutions on the market presently aren’t truly graphene, they are a derivative – but our Gii-Sens electrodes are manufactured from pure 3D Graphene Foam, making them the most pristine form of graphene commercially available on the market today.”
With so many market applications, it would be easy to get lost in a sea of opportunity, but Integrated Graphene is focusing on sensing and biosensing solutions with their first foray into the market. Advances in manufacturing processes and device integration are propelling developments in biosensors; and according to Frost & Sullivan analysis, the global biosensor market is expected to grow at a 12% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during 2018 -2023, from revenues of $17.7 billion in 2018, to reach $31.2 billion by the end of 2023.
Dr Marco Caffio said the following on the potential for growth for the organization –
“For several years now, people have been chasing the perfect single layer, but 2D graphene offers only a limited surface area and is currently restricted to small-scale production. Because our 3D Graphene Foam can be grown directly on to any substrate, at scale, it opens many more possibilities for using graphene. Areas, where we have recently noticed a particularly high interest in our 3D Graphene Foam, include sensing technologies and energy systems, but almost any industry could take its products to the next level by incorporating graphene. Taking this first product to market will pave the way for other applications to follow when our partners start to see significant improvements in performance graphene enables.”
The company is hotly tipped to continue its promising ascension after a successful start to life which has seen it win over 30 grant funding awards for the wide breadth of applications. As well as biosensing solutions, Integrated Graphene has also identified supercapacitors as their next target market, which is another lucrative and topical avenue that presents a significant opportunity for further growth going forward.
