New products featured in recently published Thermo Scientific chromatography columns and consumables catalog.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is featuring new chromatography columns and consumables during ASMS 2012: Thermo Scientific SOLA cartridges and plates, Thermo Scientific Titan3 and Target2 syringe filters, the Thermo Scientific Accucore C8 HPLC column, the Thermo Scientific Acclaim Surfactant Plus column and smaller-particle size Thermo Scientific MAbPac SCX-10 column. All are available in the 2012-2013 Thermo Scientific Chromatography Columns and Consumables Catalog and can be seen at the Thermo Scientific hospitality suite at the Vancouver Convention Center (Parkview Terrace – Rooms 1, 2 and 3) during ASMS 2012, being held May 20-24.

The new Accucore™ C8 HPLC column is based on state-of-the-art Core Enhanced Technology™. It expands the Accucore HPLC family of columns with a shorter alkyl length bonded phase, which provides lower hydrophobic retention than the equivalent C18 phase. The new phase enhances chromatographic performance without generating excessive operating pressure, enabling laboratories to improve sample throughput and quality of results. Compatible with any instrument from any manufacturer, the Accucore C8 HPLC column is recommended for analytes with medium hydrophobicity.

Acclaim™ Surfactant Plus columns are designed for high-resolution, high-efficiency and high-throughput single run separation of different types of surfactants, including nonionic, anionic, cationic and amphoteric, that are widely used in pesticides, detergents, petroleum products, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The Acclaim Surfactant Plus columns are based on a novel bonding chemistry that results in higher selectivity. The advanced surface modification process is designed to provide column-to-column consistency and a hydrolytically stable and reproducible surface, resulting in excellent compatibility with a Corona Charged Aerosol Detector, mass spectrometer (MS) or evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD).

The new smaller-particle sized MAbPac™ SCX-10 columns, available in 3 μm and 5 μm particle sizes, are used for separation of closely related monoclonal antibody variants, even those that differ by as little as one charged residue. The new columns provide high-resolution separations, similar to the 10 µm size column and the Thermo Scientific ProPac WCX-10 4 x 250mm columns, but offer significantly faster analysis and shorter separation times, all with excellent column-to-column and lot-to-lot reproducibility. Additionally, a pH gradient can be used for rapid, high-throughput analysis of monoclonal antibody samples with varying iso-electric points.

Thermo Scientific SOLA solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges and plates utilize a proprietary design and manufacturing technique that combines polyethylene frit materials and stationary phase components into one, uniform entity. As a result, SOLA™ cartridges and plates deliver superior reproducibility, lower elution volumes, increased sensitivity and reduce the levels of contaminants and extractables within the sample eluate.

The design provided by SOLA cartridges and plates is a significant advancement on traditional SPE formats and eliminates issues such as voiding, channeling and packing inconsistencies. This provides analysts with highly reproducible results the first time, every time, with consistency from cartridge to cartridge, box to box and batch to batch. This means fewer failures and prevents costly re-analysis. As a result, SOLA cartridges and plates address key requirements for today’s and tomorrow’s high-throughput laboratory environments.

Thermo Scientific Titan3 and Target2 syringe filters feature a new robust design, delivering greater burst pressures and exceptional flow-through characteristics that significantly enhance sample preparation workflows. Both the Titan3™ and Target2™ syringe filter ranges are fully HPLC tested and incorporate low extractable membranes and housings. In addition, the new design holds the membrane in place more effectively, optimizing the available surface area for more efficient filtration. The premium Titan3 range provides further confidence with color-coded integral rings for easy membrane selection, and it provides greater burst pressures, with 30mm models resistant to pressures of up to 120 psi.
