Waters Corporation Introduces UltraPerformance Food Safety System
Product News May 26, 2008
Waters Corporation has introduced the first UPLC®-based MS/MS system for food safety analysis at Pittcon® 2008, the analytical instrument industry’s largest annual conference and exhibition.
Configured to address the challenges of increasingly stringent world-wide food safety regulations, the Waters® UltraPerformance Food Safety System is an all-in-one solution for analyzing veterinary drug residues, pesticides, mycotoxins, marine biotoxins and illegal dyes in a variety of foods.
The system combines Waters market leading ACQUITY® UPLC technology with the Quattro Premier™ XE mass spectrometer for the sensitive and selective identification and quantification of contaminants at or below regulatory limits.
Data acquisition, processing and reporting are managed by Waters MassLynx™ software complemented by Waters TargetLynx™ application manager for target compound identification.
When coupled with Waters NuGenesis® Scientific Data Management System, laboratories can now capture and index raw data from the system or any other instrument in the laboratory - and archive it in a searchable database.
Column chemistries and an Application Methods CD are also included resulting in a turn-key solution that enables the acquisition, analysis and reporting of more results, more effectively than ever.
The UK-based Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute employs this UPLC-based Food Safety System together with Waters NuGenesis Scientific Data Management System (SDMS) to test food of animal origin for drug residues and capture and report raw data.
In addition to meeting tougher international standards, the laboratory has subsequently decreased separation times five-fold as compared to their HPLC methods, has reduced solvent consumption, significantly shortened its method development cycle, and has eliminated thousands of pages of hard copy reports.
