Evaluation of entomopathogenic fungi as a biological control agent of Cameraria ohridella, an invasive pest of Aesculus hippocastanum in Europe.
We evaluated the potential for using entomopathogenic fungi to control the horse chestnut leaf-miner, Cameraria ohridella Deschka et Dimic (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae). The laboratory bioassays revealed a high insecticidal activity of I. fumosorosea blastospores and conidia on both C. ohridella pupae and eggs.

The first record of Beauveria bassiana (Deuteromycetes) on the hibernating pupae of Cameraria ohridella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae)
Samples of the horse chestnut leaves with C. ohridella pupae were collected in autumn at Ceske Budejovice. The leaves were dissected and the pupae were individually placed into the 23°C and 95% R.H. Development of mycosis was frequently observed but only a few pupae were infected by B. bassiana. The strains of the fungus were isolated from individual pupae and deposited in Culture Collection of Entomopathogenic Fungi Olesna.

Homology modeling and docking studies of Comamonas testosteroni B-356 biphenyl-2, 3-dioxygenase involved in degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls
The three-dimensional model of a-subunit of Biphenyl dioxygenase (BphA) from Comamonas testosteroni B-356 has been constructed. The kinetic parameters of biphenyl compounds were well matched with the docking results. The binding properties of these biphenyl compounds along with identification of critical active site residues could be used for further site-directed mutagenesis experiments in order to identify their role in activity and substrate specificity.

Microfluidic assembly of magnetic gel particles
Monodisperse spherical magnetic gel particles containing asymmetric infrastructure were fabricated by a new microfluidics-based technique using double-emulsion droplet as templates. Double emulsions with functional cores and hydrogel shells were generated by the flow-focusing drop makers with special wettability patterning. Particles were made with a consistently anisotropic internal structure, which leads to their uniform anisotropy to perform the highly rotational controls by applying the magn

Fabrication and characterization of a fully integrated microdevice for in-vitro single cell assays
This work presents the microfabrication and preliminary characterization of a fully integrated microdevice for in-vitro single cell assays. This technological platform combines IDEs and MEA-based modules for cell addressed delivery of bio-functionalized nano/microparticles and single cell electroporation respectively.

Point-of-care testing for prostate cancer diagnosis
This presentation describes the potential of using a new fully automated QCM biosensor and a commercial SPR biosensor for the detection of PSA, a biomarker for prostate cancer. Initially a new buffer was formulated to eliminate 98% of the non-specific human serum protein binding to the sensors. Obtained results indicate that both instruments can be used for the fast and easy detection of PSA (0.29-150 ng/ml) in serum.

Experimental Determination of ADMET Parameters in High Throughput, Using Colloidal Gold Composites and a Conductive Polymer as Reporting Reagents
We developed and validated a high throughput in vitro setting to experimentally determine hSA and Orosomucoid affinities, fraction absorbed, Log BBB and Redox potential of NCEs using gold nanoparticles functionalized with proteins, lipids or conductive polymers. Such automated ADME assays provide means for more objective decisions in early drug discovery.
