Beckman Coulter Features Industry-Leading Instruments, Sponsors Contest at IFT

Featuring a state-of-the-art system for dry powder dispersion and an instrument for measuring zeta potential, Beckman Coulter Particle Characterization will distribute a new, free application note and host a food-tasting contest in booth # 4709 at the 2011 International Food Technology (IFT) conference in New Orleans, June 11-14.
Applications specialists will run demonstrations of the LS 13 320 laser diffraction analyzer with the Tornado patented dry powder dispersing system.
“Last year, customers brought everything from powdered milk to salt for testing and were impressed with how easy the system is to use,” said Jim Fete, senior applications consultant.
Fete continued, “Customers really enjoyed the demonstration - the delivery system is ideal for food products such as flavor crystals, which can be damaged by excess pressure in traditional compressed-air sample feeding systems.”
In addition to dry powders such as coffee grinds, powdered milk and soup fillers, customers rely on the LS 13 320’s liquid handling system to test the flavor emulsions, suspensions or slurries that are frequently used in food production.
Additionally, an application note covering best practices for determining the zeta potential of flat surfaces using the Beckman Coulter DelsaNano Size and Zeta Potential Analyzer will be distributed.
“Food industry customers will find the methods discussed in the note useful for testing package coatings, thin film depositions or any other sample that exists as a film or sheet,” said Matt Rhyner, Ph.D., technical marketing manager.
Rhyner continued, “These capabilities are unique to DelsaNano and we’re excited that IFT attendees will be among the first customers to receive the new application note.”
To celebrate this year’s conference, Beckman Coulter will hold a food-tasting contest and include attendees who successfully complete the test in a prize drawing.
“While demonstrating technology is the primary purpose for attending the IFT, we think it’s a great opportunity to celebrate food,” said Elsa Burgess, director of commercial operations. “We’re hoping a lot of people join us to test their tasting capabilities and learn about our technologies.”
