French startups and partners ISKN, BeSpoon and Luciom demonstrated innovative new products at CES 2014 that highlight the wide-ranging uses of CEA-Leti’s technology for consumer and communication applications.

The companies and their products include:
• ISKN, which recently launched iSketchnote. The smart iPad cover, developed with Leti sensor technology and support from IRT Nanolec, integrates a new digitizing technology with the convenience of a notebook. The 2013 Leti startup recently raised $346,127 in its Kickstarter project, nearly 10 times its original goal.
• BeSpoon, which recently launched SpoonPhone. The new smartphone is equipped with the capability to locate tagged items within a few centimeters accuracy. The capability is enabled by an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) integrated circuit developed by Leti and BeSpoon, which was launched by Leti in 2010.
• Luciom, which demonstrated two applications for visible-light communications, using light fidelity, or Li-Fi. The communication leverages LED technology to enable a high data-transfer rate through high-speed modulation without altering the lighting quality of the LED. Leti developed an optical over-the-air data link that allows the transmission of true HD video from a standard LED lamp to a handheld receiver.
• Cityzen Sciences, which develops smart fabrics with integrated microsensors. The company won the Inclusive Innovation award at CES’s inaugural Everyday Health Awards for Innovation. The award was given for the company’s Smart Monitoring Shirt, which monitors runners’ heart rate, temperature and speed and provides localization.

As a participant in the Smart Sensing project that is supported by bpifrance and coordinated by Cityzen Sciences, Leti is working on the integration of electronics in textiles.

“These companies are exciting examples of Leti’s success in transferring innovation to industry, launching new businesses, creating jobs and adding value to our partners and society, generally,” said Laurent Malier, Leti CEO. “They also highlight the many diverse applications that result from close collaboration between Leti and its partners.”
