Telstar will be present at Achema (Frankfurt 2012, June 18th-22nd)) with its latest innovative solutions (equipment and critical facilities) for the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry and research centers.

For the first time, together with KeyPlants, Telstar will exhibit a complex modular installation for sterilization of biopharmaceutical products, which is part of a biotech facility for cell-culture production.

The installation exhibited, which is full-scale and one third of a full size module (5,5m length x 3,3m width x 3,2m high), will demonstrate how the modular concept is applied to pharmaceutical process facilities. This will be the first time that a modular facility has been exhibited in Achema.

The modular concept is an innovative trend in the construction of critical facilities for the biopharmaceutical industry, offering more flexible and cost efficient modules suitable for all process areas, within an existing building or attached to it, delivered anywhere in the world within 8 - 12 months.

The modular design divides the process into functional and repeatable modules. This provides standardization and repeatability, which further simplifies pre-fabrication and enhances the predictability of the project.

The modular concept significantly reduces time to market for lifesaving products, such as pandemic vaccines and new cytostatics.

With 20 years process and concept engineering experience, KeyPlants and Telstar have the pedigree to design and execute all types of biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical facilities project.

Micro Powder Drying System for Powder Process
Telstar will also have on display at Achema one of the most innovative systems for pharmaceutical process drying applications using the novel micro powder drying technology to convert liquid solutions into a dry powder form.

The new technology developed includes a freeze drying process that utilizes liquid spraying under vacuum for the first time.

The particles produced with micro powder dry technology are in the form of highly uniform porous spheres, the size of which can be precisely controlled from an order of 10µm to an order of 100µm, which enables shortening of drying time, thereby increasing the process efficiency and the yield.

Automatic Vial Unloading System
In addition, Telstar will exhibit its most compact and innovative automatic vial unloading system. Aimed at minimizing installation space and offering straightforward maintenance, the novel and functional design of this system enables it to be easily integrated to lyophilizers.

Telstar will demonstrate the constant height ‘push’-type of unloading system for vials, which is so compact that it does not impact the layout of the freeze dryer, yet all mechanisms requiring maintenance are external to the chamber in the technical area.

The unloading system is designed to operate in conjunction with Telstar’s constant height ‘push’-type loading system.

Flexible isolators
Telstar solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry will be complemented with its new generation of flexible isolators. Telstar will display an example of its range of cost-effective configurable flexible wall containment isolators developed for special applications which require safe and controlled working conditions for handling potent compounds.

Although they can provide a similar degree of containment as rigid isolators, they are often utilized for small batch production or for single-use applications.

Ideal for the manufacture of small batches in the development stage of new solid drugs or in research and development laboratories which require highly versatile and flexible equipment suited to different research processes.

Developed with in-house containment technology, Telstar flexible isolators make it possible to work with OEL ≤ 1µg/m³ (8 working hours TWA), and they are designed, manufactured and validated according to the required application.

Lab equipment
Finally, Telstar will present at Achema its latest innovations for the biopharmaceutical laboratory in the form of a new generation of cabinets and isolators and its ecological ultra-low freezer developed from its own cold storage technology.

The result is Telstar Igloo, a compact and ecological ultra-low temperature freezer for secure preservation of samples. Under the green line concept, the new Telstar Igloo ultra-low-freezer offers -86°C temperature and provides an innovative and energy efficient storage system and superior temperature performance and uniformity.

It also offers the lowest power consumption and low noise level (< 50 dB(A)) in a small footprint, which enables a more optimized freezer layout and the flexibility to adapt to any space.

In addition, Telstar, considered one of the world’s top 5 manufacturers of biosafety cabinets and one of the top 3 manufacturers of laboratory freeze dryers, will also exhibit innovative equipment for laboratory, including a freeze dryer with integrated pre-freezing, primary drying and secondary drying processes (Telstar LyoQuest), a new generation of biological safety cabinets, which are more compact and optimize the usable work area in laboratories with limited space (Telstar Bio II Advance), isolators that maintain the continuity of the sterile process throughout loading and unloading operations (Telstar IsoFlow), and new laminar flow cabinets with 20% more sterile working area (Telstar Aeolus), as well as others new products and features.
