Serum-Free Media for Animal Cell Culture in Suspension

Serum-Free Media for Animal Cell Culture in Suspension

Biological Industries' (BI) Serum-Free Media for Animal Cell Culture in Suspension

With the increased development of therapeutically active bio-molecules, the use of animal-derived components in their manufacture is under ever-increasing regulatory scrutiny due to the concomitant risk of contamination. Thus, non-animal source products for cell culture have become an essential feature of the biopharmaceutical production process. In addition, the growing worldwide shortage and consequent price instability associated with foetal bovine serum (FBS), as well as batch variation between FBS lots (which requires extensive testing of each lot), has made the development of effective and economical serum-free alternatives a priority.

The use of serum-free media brings many advantages including:
•    Batch to batch uniformity
•    Consistency in prices
•    Freedom from concern regarding mycoplasma and other contaminants
•    Simplified product purification
•    Downstream processing

BI's serum-free media and supplements have been proven to be effective for a wide variety of applications such as:
•    Culture of murine myeloma cells (NS-1, NS-0/1, SP2)
•    Culture of mouse-mouse hybridoma cells (from NS-1, NS-0/1, SP2, X63-Aag8-653, BW-S147)
•    Culture of rat-mouse, rat-rat, and human-human hybridomas
•    Monoclonal antibody production
•    Culture of other human, murine and avian lymphocytes
•    Viral production (such as HEV virus from Turkey B-lymphoblastiod cell lines)
•    Culture of various anchorage-dependent cells (such as human osteosarcoma, human epithelial, and thyroid cells)
•    Maintenance of most anchorage-dependent cells during long production periods

Featured Products

DCCM-1: A serum-free medium, designed for hybridoma cell growth and monoclonal antibody production. The medium is a high protein formulation for maximizing cell growth, and it is ready-to-use and needs only the addition of L-Glutamine. DCCM-1 contains BSA.
Applications:
•    Culture of myeloma and hybridoma cells
•    Monoclonal antibody production
•    Culture of human lymphocyte cells (including stimulated or transformed cells)

DCCM-2: A serum-free medium, designed for hybridoma cell growth and monoclonal antibody production. The medium is a low protein formulation, and it is ready-to-use and needs only the addition of L-Glutamine. DCCM-2 contains BSA.
•    Culture of myeloma and hybridoma cells
•    Monoclonal antibody production
•    Culture of human lymphocyte cells (including stimulated or transformed cells)
•    Viral production

LPM (Low Protein Media): This media is a Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) free formulation. The protein content is less than 25µg/ml. Despite this very low protein content, LPM has proven to be remarkably effective for the growth of a wide variety of hybridomas and other lymphocytes. Glutamine must be added prior to use.
Applications:
•    Culture of myeloma and hybridoma cells
•    Monoclonal antibody production
•    Culture of human lymphocytes cells (including stimulated or transformed cells)

BIO-CHO: A serum-free medium that is the fundamental or base formulation designed and modified for Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells in monolayer culture to optimize cell growth and protein expression. This medium is utilized for the growth of an array of CHO cells such as the CHO-K1 as well as transfected cells in conjunction with the BIO-GRO-CHO SFM Supplement.
Applications:
•    Growth of CHO cells of various kinds: CHO-KI
•    Transfected cells containing recombinant DNA related to the DHFR gene
