Group Leader
at Wellcome Sanger Institute
Dr. Gosia Trynka is a group leader of Immune Genomics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, a non-profit genomics research institute in the UK. She is also the science director at Open Targets, a public-private partnership that uses human genetics and genomics data at a large scale for systematic drug target identification and prioritization. She received her PhD in genetics from Groningen University, Netherlands, which was followed by postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Broad Institute, Boston, USA. Her group combines immunologic assays and genomic approaches to identify and understand the role of genetic variants in modulating the immune system and predisposing individuals to autoimmunity. Particularly, the team is using a combination of single-cell transcriptional profiling, CRISPR perturbations and high content cell imaging to build a comprehensive understanding of the regulation of T cell functions and the subsequent effects on interactions with other immune cells.
