Brian has over 30 years of experience working with agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, veterinary drugs, and environmental contaminants in laboratory and field studies. The first 10 years of his career concentrated on agrochemical research, before he moved on to endocrine disruptors, chemical ecology of plants and insects, medical device manufacturing with related pharmaceutical production, and finally food security at Queen’s University Belfast. Brian is an author on numerous refereed publications, and has participated in successful collaborations with industry, universities, and governments on both small- and large-scale projects.

Dr. Ir. Vincent Baeten is Scientific Director at CRA-W (Walloon Agricultural Research Centre) and head of the Quality and Authentication of Products Unit (QAP Unit). This Unit is part of the Knowledge and Valorisation of Agricultural Products Department of CRA-W and has a 30-person staff of researchers and technicians. The QAP Unit is involved in the development and implementation of sustainable practices to reinforce and assess the quality and authentication of agricultural and food products. The QAP Unit hosts also the European Union Reference Laboratory for Animal Protein (EURL-AP), is part of the NRL-OGM (JRC-Ispra) and NRL-Additive (JRC-Geel). The Unit runs part of its activities under ISO 17025 and ISO 17043 schemes. Dr. Ir. Vincent Baeten has about 25 years of experience in European projects dealing with the development of spectroscopic methods. He has participated or participates in several European projects dealing with quality, safety, traceability and authentication of food and feed products (STRATFEED, TYPIC, MEDEO, CO-EXTRA, TRACE, SAFEED-PAP, FEEDforHEALTH, CONFIDENCE, QSAFE, FOODINTEGRITY, AUTHENT-NET, SENSORFINT). Since 2013, he has also been an invited assistant professor at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain, Belgium). Dr. Ir. Vincent Baeten was awarded the 2011-Q-Interline Sampling Award for the outstanding contribution in sampling applied to spectroscopy methods. In 2012, he was awarded by the Brazilian Program Ciência sem fronteiras as Pezquisador visitante especial at University Federal of Para (UFPA, Belem, Brazil). In 2021, he was awarded of the Tomas Hirschfeld Award for his outstanding achievements in Near Infrared spectroscopy.

Michelle Murphy Niedziela (PhD; @hcdneuroscience) is a behavioral neuroscience expert in neuropsychology, psychology and consumer science. Experienced from academia (Monell Chemical Senses Center) and industry (Johnson & Johnson, Mars Chocolate) in R&D of innovation technologies and methodologies for consumer research. As VP of Research and Innovation at HCD Research, Michelle focuses on integrating applied consumer neuroscience tools with traditional methods used to measure consumer response.

Erich Leitner studied technical chemistry at the Graz University of Technology where he received his Master's degree 1988 followed by a PhD degree 1991. He got the "venia docendi" 2005 for "Food Chemistry". His research activities are focused on the identification of volatile and odour active substances in food and food contact materials. Currently he is head of the research group "Food chemistry and Human Sensory Analysis" at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry at the Graz University of Technology. In his research he combines the use of a trained expert panel and highly specific equipment based on gas chromatographic techniques for the identification and quantification of flavor and off-flavor substances in different matrices. This covers food (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, fruits and vegetables, processed food) and non food materials (recycled materials, car interior parts, food contact materials).

Stefan Cretnik is Product Manager at CTC Analytics in Switzerland. After studies of Chemistry at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Stefan received his PhD in a collaborative thesis between the Helmholtz Center Munich, Universität Tübingen, and ETH Zürich (2013). Today, Stefan is specialized on GC and GC-MS applications, Lab-automation, extraction techniques and sample prep in front-end analytics.

Theresa Liao is the Content Specialist at SciNote. She has a research background in Experimental Medicine, and more than 15 years of experience in leading digital projects and developing resources to support researchers in adopting digital solutions. She oversees content development at SciNote, creating webinars, blog posts, and other materials that share insights into data management and lab digitalization.

Wade Opperman is the Manager of the Americas at SciNote. He has over 20 years of experience providing software solutions to customers in the Healthcare and Science sectors. He has been immersed in the ELN industry with SciNote for 6 years consulting with large and small Food, Agriculture and Beverage companies to provide laboratory production and quality assurance services; he is proud to list the FDA as one of the customers fully using SciNote.

Moran is passionate about driving innovation and creating sustainable solutions to world problems. He combines years of multidisciplinary expertise in microbiology, synthetic biology, and plant biology. Moran has a Ph.D. in plant biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with a focus on the metabolic engineering of secondary metabolic pathways in yeast and plants. Prior to serving at the Better Meat Co. Moran conducted research at ADM, Zymergen, and UC Davis.

Dr. Liyan Xing is a Senior Application Scientist for ICP-MS at PerkinElmer with experience in elemental and isotope analysis using ICP-MS/MC-ICP-MS and/or hyphenated technologies, such as HPLC, GC, and laser ablation. She holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and an MSc in Organic Chemistry specializing in the synthesis and characterization of supramolecules. She has done post-doc research on the catalytic mechanisms in hydrogen fuel cells. Liyan is a national committee member of CSASS and the editor of the Newsletter since 2019. She has published research on speciation analysis using HPLC-ICP-MS, isotope analysis using MC-ICP-MS/LA-ICP-MS, the oxide formation mechanisms in ICP-MS, Pt catalytic mechanisms in hydrogen fuel cells, and template synthesis of supramolecules and helices.

Anastasia Andrianova is a GC/MS Applications Scientist in the Mass Spectrometry Division of Agilent Technologies, located in Wilmington, Delaware. She received a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks) and a masters’ degree in analytical chemistry from the Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia). Anastasia has been at Agilent Technologies since 2018. She has authored or co-authored over 30 journal articles and application notes, and 1 patent in the field of analytical chemistry, focusing on chromatography and mass spectrometry. Anastasia is currently working in GC/MS applications in multiple areas with a focus on food and environmental analysis.

Claire is a Food Scientist who has a PhD from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Following her graduation, she has worked in various institutions as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and in recent years, her focus has mainly been on lecturing in Food and Nutrition and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Food Science at Harper Adams University. Besides lecturing, Claire is actively involved in research with her research focus being mainly on sustainability. Her goal at the moment is to understand whether alternative proteins are indeed the solution to sustainability. To achieve this, Claire continues to research on the techno-functional properties of a range of alternative proteins such as fungal, plant and insect proteins among others.

Masatoshi Suzuki, D.V.M., Ph.D. is a professor in the Department of Comparative Biosciences and a faculty member of the Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Center at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, USA. Dr. Suzuki has over 31 years of experience in neuroscience, skeletal muscle biology, and stem cell biology. His current research directions include in vitro modeling and tissue engineering to study musculoskeletal biology and diseases by using multi-dimensional culture platforms. Furthermore, he recently has been expanding his tissue engineering expertise and aims to establish a workflow for production of animal stem cell-based muscle tissues as cultivated meat.
