Cancer vaccines are a type of immunotherapy and can take two forms. Cancer prevention vaccines may be given to healthy people to help destroy certain viruses that could lead to cancer. Cancer treatment vaccines teach the immune system how to attack an existing cancer and keep it from coming back.
