In order to decipher the full complexity of the nervous system, neuroscientists need to be able to measure the molecular phenotypes of individual cells. High-throughput single-cell RNA sequencing allows us to study hundreds to tens of thousands of cells by measuring whole transcriptome data. Single-cell RNA sequencing was used to profile over a million mouse brain cells to reveal extensive substructure within each main brain cell type classification.

  • • Characterize large and complex biological tissues at single-cell resolution
  • • Interrogate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie normal development, neural function, disease and injury
  • • Examine the dynamic nature of gene expression patterns on a cell-by-cell basis
