Protocols for liquid handling, dispensing of drops into the Hanging Drop Plates, and spheroid harvesting are available at 3dbiomatrix.com.

3D Biomatrix has developed protocols to precisely calibrate the Beckman Coulter Biomek FX Laboratory Automation Workstation software for use with Perfecta3DTM Hanging Drop Plates. Because the Plates work with existing equipment, the protocols allow users to easily utilize the Biomek FX liquid handling system to dispense cell solutions into the Hanging Drop Plates, remove liquids from and add liquids to existing droplets in the Plates, and to harvest spheroids from the Plates.

The Perfecta3D Hanging Drop Plate is a versatile 3D cell culture device designed to simplify and streamline spheroid formation, culture, and subsequent testing of the 3D cellular constructs. Spheroid cultures grown in Perfecta3D Hanging Drop Plates allow drug discovery researchers to easily mimic tissue metabolic and proliferative gradients, to capture complex cell-matrix and cell-cell interactions, and to monitor cell growth easily and regularly. The Biomek FX is a liquid handling system commonly used in pharmaceutical discovery and screening laboratories. The use of the Perfecta3D Hanging Drop Plates with liquid handling systems will allow for these laboratories to easily screen potential drugs in 3D cell cultures.

“Making it as easy as possible for researchers to accurately discover their next breakthrough drug – faster than they ever have – is the purpose of our 3D Plates,” said Laura Schrader, CEO of 3D Biomatrix. “Creating protocols for our plates to flawlessly work with the automatic Biomek FX system is another way 3D Biomatrix is accelerating drug discovery research.”

Protocols and a video can be found at the 3D Biomatrix website. 3D Biomatrix intends to make available protocols from additional liquid handling systems in the future.
