Pathline Emerge, a leading provider of subspecialized anatomic pathology services, has teamed up with Leica Biosystems, a global leader in pathology solutions. In order to fight against medical errors in the laboratory, such as the misidentification of cancer tests, Pathline has implemented Leica Biosystems CEREBRO, a state-of the-art sample tracking and workflow management solution.

A new study by patient-safety researchers, led by Martin Makary, a professor of surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, reveals that medical mistakes may be the third leading cause of death in the United States.1

“CEREBRO offers us peace of mind by securely matching each of our patients to all their case items using a unique ID,” stated Dr. Schuyler Newman, president and CEO of Pathline Emerge. “Our technologists and pathologists have been very pleased with CEREBRO’s ease of use and how well it interfaces with other systems in the lab. It minimizes redundant manual steps and improves the overall workflow and safety of our lab.”

“Mix-ups can lead to misdiagnosis. Providing the best patient care is of the highest importance to both Pathline and Leica Biosystems,” commented Puneet Sarin, vice president and general manager of Leica Biosystems Pathology Imaging Business.  “Pathline now has a cutting-edge sample barcoding and tracking system. Integrated with its laboratory information system, CEREBRO provides a complete workflow solution that helps to reduce errors and improve outcomes.”
