Mycoplasma genitalium, like other Mycoplasma species, is a small bacterium without a cell wall. However this species has the smallest genome of any free-living organism.
It resides in the human urogenital tract where it obtains its nutrients and causes urethritis in males and females as well as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in females.
ViroStat has just released a new set of 4 monoclonal antibodies that are specific to M. genitalium. They do not cross react with other Mycloplasmas and related bacteria.
These antibodies function in ELISA and IFA and are available for research and assay development.
