Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) announces the release of the Cell Culture Media Analysis Platform, C2MAPTM-2030. A fully automated workstation for the analysis of cell culture media, the C2MAP system measures changes of 95 components in a culture supernatant as culturing progresses using LC-MS/MS, resulting in high-quality reproducible data regardless of an operator’s skill level.

The C2MAP-2030 module automates processes from pretreatment to sample dilution and analysis. Consolidated pretreatment parameter settings simplify the pretreatment process and enable multiple types of culture media to be investigated at the same time. This seamless operation ensures consistency of the pretreatment of culture media samples for better, more reproducible data. In addition, the operation software provides a simple user interface and manages the samples using the same IDs from pretreatment to LC-MS/MS measurement, ensuring traceability.

With an automated process from pretreatment to measurement, the system can improve laboratory efficiency by freeing up technicians during the day and enabling analysis during non-working hours. In addition, the C2MAP-2030 can now be operated both integrated with the LCMS and as a stand-alone system. This allows installation of the C2MAP in the same room as bioreactors where space may be limited. Furthermore, it analyzes small scale culturing applications with sample volumes as low as 100 µl using a dedicated optional rack and small-volume vials.

The visualization software tool, C2MAP TRENDS, provides a simple way to track changes to the media over time during manufacturing or in comparison to other batches. Analysts can monitor variations in metabolites secreted from cells and culture media components during cultivation, as well as display graphs of component comparisons with samples from different culture series.

This system can be used for a wide range of applications, from basic research of cell cultures including pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells and ES cells), mesenchymal stem cells, and antibody-producing cells (such as CHO cells), to optimizing the scale-up process of culture volumes and process development.
