New U-M research has shown that pluripotent stem cells can self-organize into a structure similar to the amniotic sac, an early stage of human development.

The discovery could be used to study why pregnancies fail, as explained by Deborah Gumucio, Professor of Cell & Developmental Biology from Michigan Medicine.
